I am the photographer behind Refract, and I started this studio for a simple reason. The most important day of your life moves faster than anyone warns you, and when it is over, the photographs are what you are left holding. I wanted to make the kind that give the day back to you, again and again, long after it has passed.
My work lives somewhere between editorial and documentary. I will guide you gently when it helps, so you always look like the truest version of yourselves, and then I will disappear, because the moments that matter most are the ones that happen when you have forgotten a camera is even in the room. The held breath before the vows. The laugh no one planned. The look that passes between you when you think no one is watching.
I work quietly, I work close, and I take on only a handful of weddings each year, so that yours has my full attention from the first conversation to the final gallery.
Why I Shoot Film
Some moments deserve more
than a file on a drive.
Every Refract wedding is photographed on analog film alongside digital. Never as a novelty, and never as an upgrade you have to ask for, but because 35mm and medium format film hold light, skin, and color in a way nothing else does. Film slows me down. It makes me wait for a moment rather than chase it. And it gives your gallery a depth and a warmth that is, quite simply, how I see, the difference between a photograph that records your day and one that feels like it.

Will works close, works quietly, and brings the same analog film and the same eye he brings to every Refract wedding.

Photographs preserve the still moments. Cinema captures everything in between, the vows in your partner's voice, the music, the laughter. Together they tell the complete story. Video is available as an enhancement alongside any collection, from a single Moment to a full dedicated team. The Legacy brings two dedicated videographers as part of the collection.
About Our Cinema
Cinematic storytelling, not simple documentation.
Every piece is carefully edited to music that feels true to your story. We do not hand you raw footage. We hand you a finished piece you will be proud to share. Video is an enhancement on any collection, offered in three scopes: The Moment, a 60 second cinematic piece of the ceremony; the Cinematic Collection, adding a 4 to 9 minute Cinematic Highlight; and Signature Video, a full day dedicated team with a Documentary Edit. The investment is driven by the team we bring and the time they spend, not the format of the final edit.

Booking & Availability
Most couples book 12 to 18 months in advance, especially for peak season dates from May through October. That said, we do take on closer in dates when the calendar allows. We recommend reaching out as soon as you have a date in mind. We would hate for you to learn we are already booked.
The process starts with an inquiry through the form on our Connect page. From there we schedule a consultation call to get to know each other and confirm we are the right fit. To hold your date, we require a signed contract and a booking retainer.
Absolutely. We are based in Fairfax, VA, and serve the Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia region as our home market, with travel throughout that region always included in every collection. We also travel nationally and internationally. For destination weddings, reach out and we will walk you through a custom travel quote for your location.
Will leads personally on every booking where his calendar allows. When a date is already held, we occasionally offer select couples the opportunity to work with one of our curated associate photographers, creatives Will has personally chosen for their alignment with the Refract approach and aesthetic. If your date is important to you, reach out early and we will always be honest about what is available. Availability through an associate is presented as an option, never assumed.
This is one of the most common things couples tell us, and it is completely normal. Our entire approach is built around making you feel at ease. We give gentle, natural direction throughout the day so you never feel like you are posing. Most couples forget we are there. An engagement session beforehand is a wonderful way to build that comfort, and it is included in The Signature and The Legacy.
Video is available as an enhancement to any collection rather than built into a specific tier. You choose the scope that fits your day, from a single 60 second cinematic piece of your ceremony, to a full day dedicated videography team delivering a complete documentary edit. The Legacy includes two dedicated videographers as part of the collection. The investment in video is driven by the team we bring and the time they spend there. Once your day is documented, the format of your final edit is a creative choice, not a cost driver. We talk through the right option on your consultation call.
We shoot a blend of editorial portraiture and authentic documentary coverage. Your portraits look intentional and polished, while your candid moments feel genuine and alive. We are drawn to natural light, clean compositions, and images that carry real emotional weight, and we weave analog film throughout every collection.
Yes. Analog film is part of how Will works, not a premium add on. Every wedding gallery carries both 35mm and medium format film alongside digital work. The two formats complement one another in ways neither achieves alone, and the resulting gallery carries a depth and warmth that is distinctly Refract. You do not need to request it. It is simply how we see.
Every venue and every wedding day brings different light, and that is one of the things we love about this work. We are trained to find and shape light in any environment, and we carry professional lighting for indoor receptions and low light ceremonies. You will never see a flash ruin the mood of a moment.
Your full gallery is delivered within 6 to 8 weeks of your wedding date. If you need images sooner for any reason, let us know and we will try to accommodate. You also receive a sneak peek gallery within 48 hours of your wedding.
All photos are delivered through a private online gallery on a professional platform. From there you can download full resolution files, share with family and friends, and order prints directly. The gallery stays accessible for 12 months.
Yes. Every collection includes a fine art album, as a credit on the Essential and Signature and as a completed Heirloom Album on the Legacy. Once you have seen your full gallery, we help you design something you will hold onto for decades, and additional albums, prints, and wall art are available then too. We are particular about craft and only work with archival materials we trust.
A retainer, typically 25% of the collection, is required to hold your date. The remaining balance is due before your wedding. We accept all major credit cards and bank transfers, and payment plans are available.
Every wedding is different, so every collection is tailored to your day in your consultation. The figures shown are a starting point. After we understand your timeline, location, and the video and products you want, we provide an exact quote built for your celebration.
Life happens, and we understand. If your date or venue changes, reach out as soon as possible and we will do our best to accommodate. Date changes are subject to availability and may involve a rescheduling fee if significant notice is not provided.
Yes. We have a trusted network of professional photographers and videographers we work closely with and can call on in an emergency. Your wedding will always be covered by someone whose work meets our standard.
